Hallowe'en?
Oct. 16th, 2012 09:51 pmKarin is always happy to attend a party, but what on earth is this 'Hallowe'en' thing? Is one supposed to dress up? Is it like a masquerade? Whatever is a poor Swede to do?
Thankfully she knows someone that knows everything that one needs to know about parties. And hopefully Mr. Attford won't mind answearing some questions, so she sends a note, by raven, to her friend.
Dear Nathan!
I need your help!
What is Hallowe'en, and how does one prepare for a Hallowe'en party?
Sincerly
Karin.

Date: 2012-10-16 08:05 pm (UTC)It's the short of All Hallow's Eve, the night before All Saint's Day. The idea, I think, is that it's one last night for the souls of the dead to wander the earth and take vengeance or make mischief before going off to Heaven, so one dresses up to avoid being recognized. It's a bit Catholic to celebrate it, really, but it's popular in the Neath, for obvious reasons.
A Hallowe'en party would be a costume party - does this mean you've been invited to Miss Darling's? You'll need to choose a costume soon to have it together in time!

And yes I'm invited. And one should be in costume? Dear Lord!? Do you have time to meet with me and discuss, I haven't a clue what would be a proper costume!

Date: 2012-10-16 08:25 pm (UTC)It's usually a bit macabre, but it's all in good fun. I suppose one could say that about many Neathy holidays, though.
Certainly I'll be happy to assist you in choosing a costume - shall I call on you at home, or would you care to come out somewhere?
